Professions related to helping people. Are you sure you have chosen the right profession? Not only tears

Psychology of help [Altruism, egoism, empathy] Ilyin Evgeny Pavlovich

9.4. Psychological health of workers in helping professions

Helping activity is included in the group of professions with a large presence of factors of mental tension. It is replete with many not only positive, but also negative emotions when employees communicate with customers. This is also due to the fact that women are mainly engaged in helping activities, and therefore they have increased emotional excitability, infection with emotions from each other, including negative ones. In addition, the mental makeup of people who have chosen helping professions - a weak nervous system, low emotional stability, a tendency to feel guilty, anxiety, low stress resistance - contributes to the emergence of psychosomatic diseases in them.

This is clearly manifested in teachers (Smolova L.V., 1999; Turenko E.A., 2011), among medical workers (Koshcheeva N.A., 2010).

The dynamics of changes in the integral characteristics of the personality of teachers with different work experience at school is as follows: in the first 10–15 years of work, there is an increase in indicators of competence, focus, flexibility, then the trend changes to the opposite: teachers with work experience of 15–20 years or more are characterized by a sharp decrease all indicators. The period of stagnation is determined by a decrease in the indicator of the degree of social adaptation in a third of teachers to the level of patients with neuroses. Therefore, one of the central tasks of the education system is to preserve the professional health of the teacher.

Mitina L. M., 2008

According to G. A. Vinogradova (1999), 97% of teachers, regardless of age, suffer from various psychosomatic diseases. Among them, hypertension and hypotension (two people out of every three), neuroses, osteochondrosis (every second) and stomach ulcers (one out of every fifteen) are “leading”. The peak of the disease falls on the age of 30 years.

The occurrence of these diseases leads to changes in the psyche, in behavior and affects the effectiveness of pedagogical activity. For example, mental disorders associated with hypertension (memory disorders, mood swings, fatigue) can lead to difficulties in relationships and conflicts with students, their parents, and work colleagues.

As R. M. Khusainov (2006) revealed, more than 80% of teachers at the stage of professional maturity experience constant fear of possible troubles. At the same time, depending on age, a certain specificity is manifested in negative experiences.

Teachers aged 31–40 are acutely dissatisfied and often complain of fatigue. At the age of 41-50, teachers are keenly aware of the daily costs of the profession, deeply experience disappointment from the results of their activities, and cannot move away from them for a long time. There is a growing feeling that others are happier than they are. Teachers over 50 have the highest anxiety.

The high quality of pedagogical work is achieved, as a rule, by increasing working hours. With such an intensification of labor, the best teachers who have achieved mastery in their field are most of all overloaded. In his work, the teacher must perform more than a hundred functional duties. Pedagogical activity is closely connected with communicative overloads. Only with students of different ages the teacher speaks for 6-10 hours a day. For 45 minutes of working time, the teacher, on average, makes more than a hundred requirements to students. Studies have shown the dependence of the influence of teachers' communicative overload on their age and length of service. Thus, among teachers with an experience of up to three years, 8.3% suffer from overload, and with an experience of more than eighteen years - three times more - 24.2%. The resulting shortage of energy resources leads to the disruption of the adaptive processes of the individual and contributes to the emergence of persistent states of maladaptation both in professional activities and outside of working life; 73.6% of teachers report disorders in their emotional sphere, manifested in a decrease in mood, irritability, anxiety, increased resentment; 91.1% of teachers note the presence of diseases or disorders of various organs or systems of the body. More than 80% of teachers at the stage of professional maturity experience fear of possible troubles.

OsnitskyA. V., 2001

Teachers with 10–15 years of experience experience neuroticism, a decrease in empathy (it becomes equal to the norm for men), dominance increases, as a result of which they become authoritarians (Alekseeva E. E., 2000).

To find interesting professions that will be hired without a diploma, we rummaged through job search sites. Some vacancies where you can work without special education turned out to be so cool that you should send your resume at least now.

Work for food

The first group of professions for which crusts are not needed is associated exclusively with natural talent. To become a taster, you need sensitive receptors and a love of food. The most attractive vacancies are associated with sweets and what is sweet to drink.

Cake taster

kristofcakes.ru

The confectionery factory of Christoph Laermans was looking for a person who is able to eat 2.5 kg of sweets a day. For employment, a medical book and the absence of allergies were required, and the company gave a salary, a discount on factory products and paid for a gym membership.

tea tester

A tea taster is a person who tastes tea. Such employees are needed when a company is going to purchase a batch of goods: they determine how high-quality tea suppliers offer. And for this you have to travel to India, Africa, China and, in general, to all countries that produce tea.

The tester also drinks tea after purchases: he checks whether the taste has changed after transportation and packaging at the factory.

When we were given this vacancy for the selection of a candidate, the requirements were as follows: the first is to love tea, the second is to have a certain physiological sensitivity, the ability to determine astringency and aroma. It should be noted that salaries are high: this profession is rare.

Natalia Storozheva, General Director of the Perspektiva recruitment agency

In Russia, the profession is not taught anywhere, so the company itself recruits people and sends them to study abroad. All you need is experience and more experience.

Work for travel

Not everyone can be a taster if the tea from the bag does not taste different from the rare loose tea from the leaves. To become a traveler, you need much less natural data, there would be a desire.

Tourism manager

A fairly common vacancy for which special education is not needed. Just such a "rough" work in tourism will become a substitute for any university.

The advantage of the work is the opportunity to go on special study tours, which are usually held out of season. Minus - low starting salary, but there is an opportunity to develop and become an expert in the areas.

Olga Evstratova, commercial director of the Caribbean Club

The manager communicates with clients, studies the offers of hotels and guides in different countries and makes sure that the expectations of the clients coincide with the capabilities of the host.

Leisure director

This seems to be the highest stage in the development of a tourism manager. The One to Trip company offers everyone over 18 years old with a passport and decent English, performing crazy tasks. Then be sure to report on the trip, but not to the authorities, but to the whole world: tell the details and give advice to the company's subscribers.

Professional Traveler

A vacancy similar to a director of recreation: a person with knowledge of English, a passport, active and sociable is required.

The traveler needed to deliver hornbeams (orders from our users), communicate with customers and conduct interviews with them, blog about bargains abroad, tips and experiences from our users, create content for our social networks and help other travelers.

Daria Child, founder of Grabr

An additional item in the job requirements is love for. We need a person for whom "Black Friday" is not the name of a horror movie, but the event of the year.

Work for Interest

Making money on a hobby is not only about making soap and baking cakes to order. There are also unexpected options.

car navigator

Roman Gerasimov, navigator of the FONBET Trophy-Team, author and host of the Motorsport in Faces project, spoke about this profession.

To become a navigator, you must first get to the next competition by anyone: a spectator to understand if you like this type of motorsport, an assistant referee to find out the organization of the race from the inside, a pilot if you have your own car. The main thing is to understand that you are ready to endure all this.

Roman Gerasimov

In trophy raids, the navigator is the “eyes” of the crew, it is he who knows where to go, and also keeps track of time, instruments and works with sports documents. Also, in case the car gets stuck, the navigator works with an electric winch, jack and shovel to get the car out.

At the initial stage, you need to study navigation devices, competition rules, terms and tools. It is important to work on physical preparation, because moving through the swamps is difficult.

Payment for the work of a navigator at the initial stage can be small, it depends on the experience and reputation of each specific specialist. Outstanding representatives may be noticed by major sports teams and hired permanently. The employment of the navigator is episodic, usually on weekends, when trophy raids take place more often. That is, you can combine with other work.

Profession without a name

This is a job for those whose hobby is to mess around.

Alexander Malafeev, HR director at Srochnodengi, says: “A couple of months ago, one of my Facebook friends posted a vacancy as part of his sociological project. He could not come up with a name for this vacancy, because the main functional duty of this position was to sit at an empty office desk all day and do nothing. It was necessary to understand how much an ordinary average citizen could endure such torture for money, and also what his motivation was. I will say right away that there were enough responses.”

Party King

In April 2016, the JoyME mobile app was looking for a candidate for the position of Party King. Responsibilities: know everything about entertainment, fashion shows, crossfit, racing and parties in Moscow. The party king had to attend all these events (although this is not always easy), make friends and attract users of the application, and at the same time look for partners to further develop the business. Education did not matter, but the ability to pass any face control was needed.

Work that helps

There is such a profession - to help people. For example, look after while the owners are away, walk if the owners are busy, comb out and even teach the dog to speak. The YouDo.com service helped with a selection of such professions, where they often look for unusual assistants:

  • A man who makes friends a cat and a dog.
  • A responsible man who will remind you three times a day that it's time to drink medicine.
  • A cheerful girl who will play the role of a soulmate in front of relatives at a family evening.
  • A music lover who can compile an original playlist with comments.
  • An assiduous person who completes a big puzzle.

And that's not counting the standard requests to get in line or help with cleaning. You are unlikely to make a career in this area, but if you like helping people, then why not make money on it.

HR vice versa

Recruitment specialists learn right away “in the fields”, where they have to evaluate people. Typically, an HR manager works with applicants. But sometimes the “wrong” HR is required.

Elena Sentsova, Human Resources Manager at STS Group, says: “STS Group specializes in outsourcing and personnel leasing, as well as outstaffing. At our facilities, a shift method of work is common. The watch lasts 45, 60 days and more - at the choice of the person. Then the employment agreement with him is closed.

This is done by employees of an unusual profession - layoff managers. The layoff manager is the reverse secretary. He escorts shift workers on vacation and makes the process as comfortable as possible. Later calls people, offers to continue cooperation. Such care is bearing fruit: more than half of the specialists return.”

You can work as a layoff manager without education. The main requirements for such specialists are a positive outlook on life, sociability, the ability to establish contact with owners of even the most complex character.

We found all the listed professions in less than a week. And these are not all cool positions that do not require a diploma. Tell us in the comments what vacancies for "ignoramuses" you saw.

The purpose of the helping professions is to benefit society and its specific members. Therefore, specialists in the professions of this category voluntarily provide (or, if necessary, are ready to provide) assistance, regardless of its nature, to any person who applies. In other words, they perform prosocially motivated actions. According to the definition of J. Reikovsky, these are actions aimed at “preserving, protecting, facilitating the functioning or promoting the development of one or another “social object” (another person, group, collective)” .

According to the classification proposed by E.A. Klimov, professions that involve constant work with people and regular communication in the course of professional activity belong to the “man-to-man” system, that is, to a group of professions of a social type (classification by J. Holland). The main areas of activity of this professional type are most often the field of education (teacher, educator, trainer, tutor, etc.), the field of medical care (doctor, nurse, etc.), the field of legal protection (lawyer, district inspector, etc.). etc.), consumer services (waiter, salesman, hairdresser, etc.). In addition, there are separate areas of activity that can also be classified as “helping professions”, since they are associated with helping a person and groups of people (psychologist, speech therapist, defectologist, etc.).

It is not surprising that people working in this category of professions are most prone to burnout syndrome (EBS), since the tool of work here is directly the personality of the specialist himself, his character traits, his abilities. In addition, the conditions for the activity of "helping professions", in the terminology of E.A. Klimov are associated with increased moral responsibility.

In modern literature, there is no clear definition of CMEA: each author in his interpretation focuses on a more important aspect for him. Most accurately, in my opinion, the essence of this phenomenon reflects the definition formulated by the psychotherapist, international trainer in positive psychotherapy, teacher of the International Academy of Positive Psychotherapy and Transcultural Family Therapy, P.A. Frolov: "Burnout syndrome is a collective name for emotional and behavioral reactions that occur in response to the irrational organization of activities and consist in changes in the emotional involvement of professional activities."

Indeed, working with people almost always requires the personal interest of a specialist, his complete immersion in the activity. In this case, the emotional and temporal boundaries of a specialist can often be violated both at their own request and at the request of the employer. At the same time, the specialist does not have the opportunity to restore the lost resources due to constantly emerging "interesting cases" and "production needs". Thus, gradually and consistently, the specialist goes through all the stages of SEV.

There are three stages of burnout syndrome:

First - stress stage. Being at this stage, a person becomes anxious, irritable, constantly feels tired, quickly exhausted, emotional stress grows with each subsequent working day and reaches its limit by the end of the working week. At the same time, a person often thinks about work in his free time and on weekends, takes work home.

As a rule, most people attribute the symptoms that have appeared to the prevailing rhythm of life. Of course, organizations sometimes have periods of increased workload, for example, reporting, certification, etc. However, they last a short time, and if the employee knows how to properly distribute working hours, the body has time to recover and enter a normal course.

If a person does not notice the signs of the stage of tension and is in it for a long time, then gradually he passes into the second stage - stage of resistance (resistance).

Stage resistance differs in that the employee's emotional involvement in work decreases. In addition, it has an impact on the professional outlook of a person, a sense of himself as a professional. In positive psychotherapy, there is a model of personality formation (the concepts of "I", "You", "We" and "Great-We"), which helps us understand How a person relates to himself and the world around him, How interacts with him. By transferring this model to the field of activity, one can understand what the professional worldview of this person is. This model looks like this.

"I"-concept reflects the attitude of the individual to himself as a professional. When a person is in the resistant stage of CMEA, a low assessment of his work is observed, and the employee’s habit of relying on old experience does not make it possible to see the prospects for his activity, creative thinking disappears, the specialist refuses to take responsibility for the results of his work.

"You"-concept reflects the attitude of a professional towards clients and colleagues. The stage of CMEA resistance is manifested in the constant presence of the employee in a state of professional cynicism, lack of involvement in the problems and emotional state of the client (pupil, student, etc.). A person has a negative attitude towards his clients, unconsciously showing his aggression towards them, while experiencing relief when the client does not come. A specialist can be late for a meeting with clients, allow himself to discuss them with his colleagues without the consent of the clients themselves, while having a negative attitude towards most of them. However, the specialist may feel guilty if he realizes that he was shown aggression towards the person who asked for help. At the same time, such a professional is jealous of the success of his colleagues and allows himself to violate corporate ethics, giving unacceptable assessments to his colleagues when communicating with clients.

"We"-concept reflects the attitude of the employee to the work team. The decrease in the quality of work of a specialist subject to SEB in the stage of resistance, his frequent delays and early departures from work is becoming more and more noticeable. In the process of work, the specialist spends more and more time on breaks, as if sabotaging it, but at the same time constantly feeling the lack of time to perform his immediate duties. There is a feeling that the employee is opposed to the organization, that he is constantly confronting it. During this period of CMEA on the part of employees, intrigues are possible in the workplace, the organization of coalitions against someone, most often against more successful colleagues.

"Pr-we"-concept reflects the employee's attitude to the significance of their own activities, to how meaningful and valuable it is. In the stage of resistance, a specialist loses the meaning of his own activity, he is not able to appreciate the fruits of his work, which makes it difficult for him to make plans for the future related to career growth or advanced training. In addition, the only motive for retaining a job is material remuneration for work.

The third stage of burnout syndrome is called exhaustion. It is characterized by the impoverishment of the psychological resources of a specialist, psychosomatic disorders appear (a person often begins to get sick with both colds and diseases of the cardiovascular system, gastrointestinal tract, etc.). Along with similar symptoms, a person develops neurotic disorders in the form of depression, phobias, etc. During this period, the individual is prone to various types of addictions (alcohol, drugs, gambling, etc.).

Burnout syndrome can be obtained in two ways: firstly, due to the independent organization of unbearable working conditions, and secondly, due to the tough and unreasonable policy of the enterprise management.

It is not surprising, but the employee is able to independently bring his psyche to a state of emotional exhaustion, he will go through all the above described stages one by one, if in the course of his activity he begins to organize formal relations with those who applied, he will not be able to respect the boundaries in relations with clients and colleagues, play mutually exclusive roles in communicating with them, will become excessively active in work (or, conversely, be inactive), not trying to assess their real capabilities and limitations. He will not have clear ideas about the criteria for evaluating his work and will not discuss them with his management, which means he will not be able to evaluate himself as a professional.

In addition to the internal causes of the professional burnout syndrome, there are external ones, which most often depend on building relationships between the company's management and specialists. It is not uncommon for the leaders of various institutions to choose an authoritarian style of leadership, which manifests itself in a lack of interest in new proposals from employees. There is also a place to be harsh public criticism with threats and frequent punishments with rare encouragement, maintaining fear and guilt in employees. In addition, the company does not trust its employees, makes them objects of manipulation, dividing them into groups, showing inconsistency and randomness in its requirements, going beyond the boundaries of the job description, refusing to recognize employees for their positive features and merits.

What to do if you notice yourself being at one of the CMEA stages?

A very valuable resource for a specialist is the professional community, so specialists need to attend various professional events, have the opportunity to openly discuss both positive and negative aspects of professional activity.

In addition to regular communication with colleagues, for the prevention of SEB, it is necessary to have stress management skills. It is very important to be able to recognize, differentiate your own and other people's emotions, master relaxation techniques, understand your needs, and feel your own significance.

Constant self-education, advanced training, and the manifestation of interest in the emergence of new technologies, methods and techniques of work in a professional environment help to maintain an understanding of one's own importance as a professional.

In fact, "helping professions" are attractive for their diverse opportunities in communicating with people and can sometimes occupy an impressive part of a specialist's life. However, everything needs balance, and every area of life should be about equally filled with your attention. Beyond the sphere activities in which we try to achieve significant results, there is an area body, which, taking care of which, we provide ourselves with the resource of the physical body, the sphere contacts gives us the emotional support of friends and loved ones, the scope fantasies helps to betray the meaning of our existence, to make plans for life. Therefore, the harmonization of all four spheres in human life is so important.

It is indisputable that self-care is a professional skill for a worker in a helping profession, since the subject of work of these specialists is directly the personality of these specialists, which must be healthy and ready for work, like a woodcutter's sharp ax is ready to cut down a forest.

Good afternoon friends! Today we will talk about how to choose a profession - for the first or next time. We will discuss the main factors influencing self-determination, consider some career-oriented methods and, as always, we will help with good advice.

  • personal comfort,
  • self-development vector,
  • material wealth,
  • environment.

Reasons for choosing a particular profession

It only seems that the professional definition is influenced solely by interests. Why does a person choose this or that profession? In fact, there are many factors to choose from:

  • prestige, fashion

In the 60s everyone wanted to be astronauts, in the 90s they wanted to be lawyers and economists. Now on the pedestal are IT specialists, top managers, senior officials. But you should not be guided only by these criteria: fashion is changing, prestige is leaving, and perhaps this will happen before you graduate from high school.

  • financial well-being

The most paid professions include the captain of an ocean liner, pilot, top manager, IT specialist, marketer, etc. When choosing a “gold mine”, keep in mind that the profession itself will not bring a lot of money. To have a high salary, you need to be a good specialist, and this requires additional knowledge and experience.

  • Advice from friends and acquaintances

Sometimes young people choose a life path “for the company”. The best friend after the 11th grade goes to the veterinarian - why not follow him? It's more interesting together. Sometimes it works, but mostly such a rash act leads to professional disappointment.

  • Parents' opinion

It would seem, who knows their child better than mom and dad? Nevertheless, a large number of great writers took place after refusing to follow their father's path and secretly entering a literary institute. Often, parents in their advice do not proceed from the abilities of their son or daughter, but from considerations of prestige or their own unfulfilled desires.

Undoubtedly, their opinion is worth listening to, but you need to evaluate each advice soberly. When in doubt, listen to other adults you respect, such as a teacher. Outsiders are free from concern for your fate and unnecessary vanity, so they will give more balanced advice.

  • Own wish

You need to listen to the voice of intuition. The difficulty is that it is not always distinguishable from a momentary whim. You can trust a time-tested dream, but if it caught fire recently, live with it for a while and take a closer look.

What to do if there are no ideas?

Not all high school students have decided on their future profession by the time they enter the university. What if the soul does not lie to anything?

  1. Understand yourself, evaluate your abilities. Try to think analytically about what you could do.
  2. Throw in a few options, study them thoroughly. Perhaps they will all fall away as unusable, and in return something worthwhile will come.
  3. If you can’t make a choice at all, but you’re about to start studying, you have several options: a) go where your parents say or where your friends call, b) choose something simpler and closer to home, c) wait a year and figure it out yourself (and, of course, work).
  4. Try every possible activity for yourself. Waiter, courier, manager - everything that is possible. You will better know your strengths and weaknesses, temper your character, acquire new acquaintances and make a choice.

There is no guarantee that you won't make a mistake. But the main mistake is inaction. Whatever profession you prefer, this is your path, and it will definitely benefit you.

Is it possible to choose a business to your liking for life?

According to polls, almost 60% of Russians do not work in their specialty. A third of the respondents are reluctant to work. Another 16% change jobs every year. Is it possible to choose a business to your liking for life? Yes, sometimes there are lucky people who have guessed their destiny since childhood.

As a rule, they show their hobbies immediately and remain interested in them for a long time. Therefore, if your child has been treating stray kittens for several years in a row, most likely, he has already made a choice.

Little Lyuba played teacher from an early age. As a teenager, she regularly explained difficult problems to her classmates, for which she came to school long before the start of classes. And this is without any instructions from the teacher! The most surprising thing is that underachieving friends were in a hurry to be at school at dawn in order to strengthen their knowledge in mathematics.

Love went, of course, to the Pedagogical Institute. When she finished, she began teaching. There was a time when Lyuba almost left to work at a factory, but fate brought her back on the right track.

Lyubov Ivanovna was the favorite teacher of several generations. For 25 years of experience, she has accumulated many awards. And now, at the age of 82, she continues to explain difficult problems, but already as a tutor.

Choosing the right profession is difficult even for those who have a favorite school subject. Let's say a teenager loves biology, and it opens up a wide scope for choice: a veterinarian, agronomist, biologist, teacher, etc. Therefore, it is not entirely correct to judge a professional inclination by school preferences.

When you stand at a crossroads, it seems that there are many roads in front of you. But, studying the map, you understand that one of them is closed to traffic, the second exists only virtually, the third is too broken by passers-by, the fourth is overgrown with bushes, and only a couple of the rest have asphalt laid. No one claims that you need to go exclusively on asphalt. The prince broke through the thickets to wake the sleeping beauty. Decide what is closer to you: what is easier or what is more tempting.

It’s the same in life: you start to analyze all the options and come to the conclusion that you don’t like one specialty, the second one doesn’t suit your personal qualities, you can’t afford to master the third one, and you simply don’t have the abilities for the fourth one. There are a few left, it is already easier to choose from them.

A competent approach to one's own future means that one must take into account not only fashion and one's own aspirations. In addition, it is worth evaluating:

  • capabilities,
  • personal qualities,
  • possible perspectives.

Let's say you dream of becoming a professional hockey player and you don't miss a single game already, but your coach says you're not strong enough. It is worth listening to his opinion and choosing a related profession related to sports. But you can be stubborn and go to your dream, because it is able to work miracles.

Or you want to become a design engineer, your technical and creative thinking is on top, but, for example, you lack perseverance. Think carefully about whether you can sit at the computer for 8 hours 5 days a week or you want to run away in a month.

It is difficult to assess the prospects of a particular specialty (it would seem that grooms and stove-makers are forgotten, and now these people are worth their weight in gold), but you can always read forecasts, attend various seminars and job fairs.

What professions will be in demand in the future?

So, specialists from Skolkovo promise that completely new professions will appear very soon, such as a space tourism manager and a designer of virtual worlds. Analysts say that IT specialists, managers and other managers, builders will not lose their relevance in the near future.

It is clear that teachers and doctors will always be needed. Girls will not be left without work in pedagogy (school, kindergarten, additional education), in the field of hospitality and beauty.

With the intensification of globalization, tourism will develop, which means that travel lovers will find a use for themselves. People who provide various personal services (for example) and are employed in the Internet will be in demand. The remaining forecasts (about the replacement of engineers, controllers and loaders by robots) are probabilistic in nature.

In any case, if you feel like you have a calling to something, don't shy away from it. Good professionals are always appreciated.

Tests to help

To date, many methods and tests have been developed with which you can choose a profession.

Socionics is the concept of personality types according to the parameters: extraversion/introversion, logic/intuition, logic/ethics, rationality/irrationality. The combination of these characteristics gives 16 psychotypes, each of which is recommended a number of professions. For example, I got such a picture. Pretty accurate portrait.

Officially, not everyone recognizes socionics as a science, but testing gives interesting results.

Holland's Questionnaire

Dividing people into types (realistic, intellectual, social, artistic, enterprising, conventional) is a bit like the previous test. Holland's questionnaire allows you to understand personal qualities, evaluate communication skills and get some rough recommendations.

Klimov's technique

We are indebted to Academician E. A. Klimov for the tests, which at one time filled all employment centers. After answering 20 test questions, the subject receives the type of profession that suits him - these are the same “man - man”, “man - nature”, “man - technology”, “man - sign system” and “man - artistic image”. Recently, this classification has been supplemented by the group “man – self-realization” (we are talking, for example, about athletes).

Using this method, you can determine the approximate scope of the application of talent, but it should be borne in mind that since its creation, the list and content of professions have changed.

Profession choice matrix

The advantage of this technique is in a small number of questions and the visibility of the results. Having chosen 2 necessary options, find their intersection in the table and get professional recommendations. The disadvantage is the limited choice of tips.

How can you help your child find a career?

Parents tend to protect children from mistakes, but career guidance should be their independent choice. How to properly instruct the younger generation and help the child decide on a profession?

  1. Talk with a teenager more often, find out not only inclinations, but also their prerequisites. Be interested in what reasons the child prefers this or that business - so you will find out not only his motives, but also the level of awareness about the profession.
  2. Try to deepen the teenager's understanding of work: tell me the literature, introduce people who are engaged in this work. Series about doctors and investigators paint idealistic pictures, but the neighborhood police officer will tell the whole truth as it is.
  3. Help find career guidance tests, but explain that they do not fully reflect reality, but only provide some guidance.
  4. Don't insist on going to college. Firstly, sometimes a technical school or courses are enough to successfully master a specialty. Secondly, when a young person grows up, he himself will feel the need for higher education, which means he will make the right choice and will treat his studies more responsibly.
  5. Find out what specialties can be obtained in other regions. Firstly, you will learn about all the new trends, and secondly, sometimes in a neighboring region you can learn for free what you will have to pay a lot for in your city. If a son or daughter is ready to go to distant lands for the sake of a successful future, do not hold them back: sooner or later they will leave anyway.
  6. Let your teenager try his hand at some industry. If he wants to become a teacher, let him agree to conduct lessons with a teacher, if he dreams of a restaurant business, advise him to get a job at McDonald's.
  7. Give him a chance to make his own decision. Let the teenager break firewood, get valuable skills and good lessons, but then he will not blame you for a failed life. The type of activity can always be changed, it is more difficult to regain lost trust.

Change of profession after 30 years

Career guidance is relevant not only for young people. For various reasons (changes in the labor market, relocation, personal circumstances), people at any age think about changing jobs. One of the most popular is a little over 30, not without reason this period is considered a crisis.

What to choose if you decide to change your profession at the age of 30? It is not easy for people with a family and decent work experience to take this step. We have already described cases where it is really necessary. When in doubt, analyze your life and trust the voice of intuition.

If you decide to say goodbye to your former place, but fears interfere, tell yourself the following:

  1. I am not already, but still only over 30. I am young, full of strength, and I will succeed.
  2. I am better than at 18, I know my needs and opportunities.
  3. Psychologists consider this age suitable for life changes, because freshness of thinking is preserved and at the same time there is sobriety of judgments and considerable experience.
  4. All my skills remain with me. It will be great if they are useful to me in a new place, if not, I can still return everything.

Changes are possible according to the following scenarios:

  • To occupy a sought-after niche - to master a new profession.
  • Develop acquired skills in a new direction - make a smooth transition to a new activity, based on what you do best.
  • To turn a hobby into work is to heed the call of the soul.

The first two points are chosen, as they say, by the mind, and the third - by the heart. What are the pros and cons of each?

  1. The advantages of the first option are obvious: if the profession is in demand, specialists are in great demand. This is especially true for new industries. Here the salary is usually higher. But there is a risk that development will not be as successful as we would like. But you won't know until you try, right?
  2. The second approach seems to be the most reasonable: you have nothing to lose by developing in related activities, and the transition is smooth and painless. If you feel that sharp jumps are not for you, choose this path.
  3. The third scenario is suitable for enthusiastic natures who are bored of doing an unloved thing. The positive side: the profession will be pleasant. Negative: it is not a fact that it will be possible to extract income from a hobby.

Conclusion

Everyone chooses his own path. And you will always find the stories of people who have successfully changed their profession on our blog. Still, because its creator, Vasily Blinov, himself told readers about this.

If you associate the future with remote earnings, check out and choose an activity to your liking. And the course will help you start earning with pleasure.

Communicating with clients, brewing Turkish coffee, conducting excursions for children - today you can choose any profession and become truly happy. But among the huge list of vacancies, there are positions that influence the personality and its mental state more than others. In this article, we will tell you how to understand that the chosen field is “toxic”, and what professions can change us beyond recognition.

A profession that everyone associates with huge fees and red carpets is actually not so attractive. A study conducted by psychologists from London showed that most actors do not live their own lives, but wallow in the plot twists and turns attached to them by the characters.

Scientists have designated such a phenomenon as “possession syndrome”, i.e. the artist gets used to his role so much that he continues to play even outside the stage.

Also, scientists have identified a pattern: people who work in the field of cinema or study in drama schools are more likely than others to suffer from a personality disorder and complain of nervous breakdowns. Working to the limit of one's capabilities is the fate of every actor.

2. Artist

Today, most creative performers are freelancers, because not everyone manages to get a job in a company. In 2007, York University of the Arts held a survey regarding the earnings of artists. It turned out that the creative sphere is not always ready to indulge performers with chic fees.

Freelance artists agree that fickle payouts keep them on their toes. Uncertainty about the future invariably leads to stress and negative emotions.

While working in the studio, the artist constantly inhales poisonous paint pigments, which can not only cause irritation and poisoning, but also affect the brain. Just think how the geniuses of the Renaissance suffered when they painted their “toxic” canvases for several years!

3. Cybersportsman

The gaming industry is rapidly gaining momentum. And if earlier no one knew that fictional game characters can participate in competitions, today more than 145 million people watch team battles.

However, if you decide to start a career as an esports player, be prepared for the fact that you will have to sit at the computer for about 12 hours a day. The constant presence in the gaming space will not only worsen the state of health, but also have an impact on the psyche. It will not be easy to wean from the pixelated picture that has replaced reality.

4. Lawyer

A long career as a lawyer also leaves a tangible imprint on a person. Excessive caution, rigor and meticulousness are the factors that are necessary for the successful conduct of business.

People do not seek protection from a better life, and therefore a lawyer must be not only a good specialist, but also a psychologist, and conversations with clients do not always go smoothly. Participation in frequent work conflicts loosens the nervous system and impairs the body's immune defenses.

Sometimes lawyers receive threats and angry letters, and this is a direct path to anxiety and even apathy. Protecting his ward or dealing with a high-profile case, the specialist does not stop working even outside the office.

5. PR specialist

6. Athlete

Professional athletes must cope not only with the daily physical demands, but also with the pressure of competition, as well as with their own emotions. Performances at championships require composure, perfectionism and moral stability.

In its turn, constant competition awakens the spirit of rivalry in a person- an athlete and in ordinary life will always strive for superiority.

In addition, each athlete must maintain the status of the club or organization, which means that he must watch what he does and what he says. Professionals smiling from TV screens become role models, therefore, on the shoulders of any athlete lies a huge burden of responsibility not only to himself, but also to other people.

Daily maintenance of your status , tough competition, injuries and stress sooner or later lead to emotional burnout and devastation.

7. Stylist

Chemical products that the stylist works with daily can cause irritation or an allergic reaction over time. And after several years spent on his feet, and even in an uncomfortable position, not only does the back begin to hurt, but also the elbows, knees, and a migraine can also break out.

Many clients come to the salon not only for a new hairstyle, but also for psychological support, considering the stylist's chair as a therapist's couch. Such daily unplanned "training" can lead to stress and emotional overwhelm, because not every master is ready to constantly listen to other people's complaints.

How to understand that it's time to change jobs and how to do it

  • Your suggestions and ideas are not appreciated in the team. You cannot be yourself. If your opinion is not taken into account at meetings and general meetings, and at the end of the day you get bad feedback - there is every chance that you are not in the right place.
  • You are inexorably bored. Scrolling through the feed of social networks, sticking in mobile games is clearly not what you need to do in the workplace.
  • Work does not contribute to the achievement of your personal ambitions and goals. For example, if you want to publish a book and at the same time work as a copywriter or news editor, this will help you develop the necessary skills. But if you hold the position of a bartender with the same dream of writing a novel, you can not expect personal growth.
  • You constantly feel stressed. If after a working day you are not able to relax and your body lives in every second tension, this is a sign that it is time to look for a new job.
  • If a person does not like children, but at the same time continues to work as an elementary school teacher, he will constantly experience stress, which will certainly affect his general mental state.
  • You are not growing. Rewinding 15 years without a raise may be noble, but definitely not promising.
  • You cannot imagine yourself in this position for more than a year. When applying for a position, ask yourself if you are ready to grow with the company and work in this area for a long time.

In most cases, we do not like only some aspects of the position we hold. You may love doing training but hate filling out monthly reports. And that's okay.

But if you agree with half (and more) of the statements from the above list, consider changing jobs. In fact, giving up an unloved activity and stepping into the unknown is not as scary as it seems at first glance.

Determine the area in which you would like to gain experience. Take some free trainings. Read books on a topic that interests you. Do not be afraid to make new acquaintances - ask and get answers.

Study the criteria by which candidates are evaluated by employers in order to become that very new, useful employee in the future. Yes, it will be difficult, but if this is exactly what turns you on, go for it.
